**Earthquake Rattles Northeast; No Major Damage or Injuries** **New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.** - A preliminary magnitude 4.8 earthquake shook parts of New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. on Tuesday morning, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake occurred at 10:23 AM and was centered near Tewksbury, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Despite the proximity to major cities, no life-threatening injuries or major damage have been reported at this time. While earthquakes are relatively rare in the Northeast, New Jersey has experienced several quakes in recent years. In 2015, there were three quakes of magnitude 2.0 or above and six quakes below magnitude 2.0, which are typically not felt by people. Since 2014, New Jersey has experienced earthquakes ranging from a 1.7 magnitude tremor southeast of Trenton, which was so weak that some residents may not have felt it, to a 2.0 magnitude quake in 2018. The USGS continues to monitor the situation and has not reported any aftershocks at this time.
