Memorial Day: Honoring the Fallen

A Day of Remembrance and Mourning

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, is a federal holiday in the United States dedicated to honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died while serving their country. The holiday is observed on the last Monday in May and is distinct from Veterans Day, which honors all veterans, living or dead.

One of the most well-known Memorial Day traditions is the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery. This ceremony symbolizes the nation's gratitude to all those who have sacrificed their lives for the United States.
